Dear Friend,
Something happened in court during my first court appearance for 2024, and I felt the need to share it with you so that you can pick a lesson or two from it
So, towards the end of 2023, my desk was filled up with task and projects that I hardly appeared in court.
I just allowed the lawyers in the office to do their thing!
But I felt the need to go for a particular matter, because of the sensitivity and alas parties agreed to settle after 5 years in court!
This got me really thinking about the resources, time and energy that has gone into this matter because the parties involved chose to do the first thing last and the last thing first
Just in case you are asking
“Shouldn’t people go to court again?!”
Absolutely not!
But like I always say, let the court route be your very LAST RESORT AFTER YOU MUST HAVE EXPLORED OTHER AMICABLE MEANS OF SETTLEMENT.
And in case you didn’t know, even the court rules makes that compulsory!
Business Lesson for SMEs✍
If you are in business to make money and channel your resources rightly, hear me loud….you really don’t have any business jumping in and out of court all the time
Just in case no one told you…..
Hear me loud and clear,
Litigation (i.e. law suit) is EXPENSIVE, TIME CONSUMING & DRAINING! (Permit me to add – especially in Nigeria)
Therefore, as a serious minded business person, you must have a workable & practical Structure, System and Strategy on how to PROPERLY DEAL WITH BUSINESS DISPUTES when it arises (because it will surely do)
And when I talk about dealing with business disputes, I am not referring to you employing a beautiful lady with a beautiful smile as your customer service personnel (some of them are actually even very rude).
What I am saying is, setting up a process to tackle business disputes especially debt issues
Let’s say one of your customer complains about your product/service, what next?
Because a complaint is a dispute…..!
What is the process of handling that dispute in a way that the customer will be happy and will not escalate the problem?
How do you handle a very stubborn and aggressive customer?
How do you handle a dispute so that it will not go beyond your control?!
Better put, do you have a well-defined structure for Dispute resolution in your Business?!
And how is your dispute resolution process…
😡 Defensive or Amenable 🙂?!
Just in case you didn’t know, you see Right now…..there are 100s of debt recovery cases in court, police station, tribunal etc. due to lack of proper management of the situation.
So, what will it be for you?
Learn how to set up a Business Disputes Resolution System that will help you tackle debt issues or just do it your way, spend time and resources that you could have used to boost your business ?!
At the end of the day….Life is all about WILL & CHOICES!
Are you reading this now and wondering how you can setup a workable disputes resolution system in your business to help you save time resources and avoid escalation of debt issues?
Then apply for the BDB Program right away.
Remember, disputes are inevitable in business transactions, it is not the dispute that is in contention but how you go about resolving it, is what really matter.
This is worth thinking about.
